Types of Norway work permits
There are different types of work permits which immigrants can apply for to work in Norway. These permits are discussed below in detail:
Resident permit
Resident permits are available for study, work, or permanent residence. Previously, resident permits were known as work permit. Applications have to be submitted on the basis of education, occupation, or skillset.
Skilled Work Permit
Candidates have to meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for a skilled work permit:
- Completion of a higher degree or vocational training
- Vocational training course of three years equivalent to Norway
- A pertinent degree
- Relevant experience for the occupation which will also include education and vocational training
- A confirmed job offer from a Norwegian employer
- Salary should be more than the average in Norway
Skilled work permit holders become eligible to apply for permanent residence in Norway if they live and work in the country for 3 years. Employees have the right to change employers but not the type of occupations. There is no need to apply for a new work permit on changing the employer. This permit also allows the international workers to work in their company’s branch in Norway.
