In 2019, the Australian government introduced the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) subclass 491 visa, also known as the 491 visa. This visa is designed to allow qualified skilled professionals and their families to live, work, and study in specified regional areas of Australia for up to five years. After residing in the region for three years, visa holders become eligible to apply for a Permanent Residence visa.

To apply for the 491 visa, candidates must be selected through one of the following avenues:

1. Nomination by an Australian state or regional government organization.
2. Sponsorship by a qualified relative residing in a designated regional area, followed by the submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect.

The Skilled Work Regional Subclass 491 visa is a provisional visa nominated by the Australian government, allowing skilled individuals from around the world to live and work in designated regions of South Australia for up to five years.

If you live and work in South Australia on the subclass 491 visa for at least three years and meet the minimum income requirement during that time, you may become eligible to apply for permanent residency through the subclass 191 Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa.

To be eligible for this visa, the following criteria must be met:

1. Age should be below 45 years at the time of application.
2. A minimum score of 65 points is required for the visa application invitation.
3. Demonstrate evidence of the nominated skill and relevant experience.
4. Provide an English proficiency certificate such as IELTS/TOEFL.
5. Meet the health and character requirements set by the Australian government.
